The project, second-place winner in the architectural competition for the Hauts de Dorigny school complex, proposes an innovative solution to accommodate 240 primary school students, an after-school facility, and a daycare center. Designed as an “inhabited canopy,” the building blends into its wooded surroundings while creating a strong architectural identity. Its distinctive form includes an L-shaped base and a two-level cloister. The layout divides spaces between the lower level (sports and after-school), the ground floor (daycare and common areas), and the upper floor (classrooms). The design emphasizes flexibility, nature integration, and covered playgrounds, with a central courtyard open to the neighborhood.
The building’s steel structure, spaced for flexibility, supports future adaptations while minimizing environmental impact. Prefabricated wood and low-carbon concrete floors enhance thermal and acoustic comfort, while recycled concrete is limited to buried sections.
A bioclimatic approach optimizes sunlight, natural ventilation, and uses bio-based materials. The green roof reduces heat islands and boosts biodiversity, while COBS-certified wood and geothermal heating ensure sustainability. Photovoltaic panels complement the building’s energy efficiency. Insulated with bio-based materials and equipped with triple glazing, the envelope reduces solar gain. A double-flow ventilation system maintains air quality while minimizing energy loss.
This project stands out for its sustainable design, integrating innovative materials, energy performance, and a quality environment for future users.
